Champoeg Park features a unique combination of history, nature, and recreation. This is the site where Oregon’s first provisional government was formed by a historic vote in 1843. Situated on the south bank of the Willamette River, Champoeg’s acres of forest, fields, and wetlands recreate the landscape of a bygone era. With a donation from a park patron, the Champoeg State Park nature play area came alive.

Seeded with stories of floods, Oregon’s state hood, and extensive native American use; the play area is full of cultural and historic imaginative play. These hands on exhibits will allow young park visitors to play and learn a bit too! Challenging climbing and jumping pieces have been incorporated along with sand and water play to offer a wide variety of play experiences. Young park visitors can explore this playscape designed just for them as the native Oak’s tower over them. The unique combination of play equipment, natural settings and cultural history offers park users a one of a kind play experience.
