Childswork Learning Center dreamed of having a nature based, hands-on, and sensory preschool playscape. As a large, play-based preschool and Kindergarden renting a buildling, the majority of their playground was on top of the adjacent church’s asphalt parking lot. Playground equipment and surfacing were added in this existing area, but they were not meeting all of the play needs of the children.

Preschool Playscape Design

After a workshop with teachers and staff it was decided that this area would be the Children’s Forest Adventure area. Learning Landscapes Design staff developed and detailed a preschool playscape concept plan that was based on hands-on sensory play and a connection to plants. The resulting space has a free building area with loose parts, stage and amphitheater, climbing hill, tunnel, forest paths, willow domes and tunnels, a water feature and creek bank play area and lots of spaces for quite relaxation and nature observation.
